Species of Fish
With an average haul of 500 pounds of fish it is safe to say that when you embark on a day excursion with Captain Bob on the Hog Hunter, your coming home with fish in the box; a lot of them! So make room in your freezer and stock up on freezer bags – you’ll need them!
While out to sea on the Hog Hunter you can rest assured Capt. Bob has adequate fishing spots to produce Amberjack, Grouper, Snapper, and many other sought after game fishes of the Gulf of Mexico. These fish are powerful and ready for a fight, some exceeding 100 pounds.
Below is a list of fish most commonly caught on our full day adventures.
Gag Grouper to 30 lbs
Mangrove Snapper to 11 lbs
Yellowtail Snapper to 7 lbs
Greater Amberjack to 65 lbs
Black Grouper to 25 lbs
Scamp to 15 lbs
Mutton Snapper to 15 lbs
Cobia to 40 lbs
Red Grouper to 20 lbs
American Red Snapper to 20 lbs
While this list is of the most common species and sizes caught, keep in mind that we often catch Mahi Mahi (Dolphin fish), large Barracuda, several species of sharks, Bonito, African Pompano, Permit, and Tuna.
When booking your adventure, let us know what species you’d like to target as this determines which direction we head out of the pass in Venice. As you can imagine, the Gulf of Mexico is very large and the distance can be great between the location of species.
